Sisters from Stevenson spend a week at the state Capitol as pages in the House of Representatives

Stevenson High School sisters Maia and Jenna Wickersham spent last week in Olympia working as pages in the Washington State House of Representatives, sponsored by Rep. Kevin Waters, from the 17th Legislative District.

Among their duties as pages, the 15-year-old twin sisters were responsible for delivering messages and documents to state lawmakers working in various locations, including the House chamber.

They also attended Legislative Page School during the day, where they had the opportunity to learn more about the legislative process.

“The page program is a great way for students to get an inside look at how the legislature works,” said Waters, R-Stevenson. “It has a positive impact on all the youth who participate.”

Waters continued: “It was great to have Maia and Jenna come and help me out at the Capitol. They both have bright futures ahead of them. They were positive and enthusiastic and always ready and willing to help.”

In her free time, Jenna enjoys several activities, including reading, art, band, baking, and sports. Maia likes playing basketball, soccer, and track. She also enjoys puzzles, reading, and watching TV.

Each year, students from around the state apply to participate in the House Page Program, which runs for the entirety of each legislative session.

To become a page, applicants must have a legislative sponsor, be between the ages of 14 and 16, and obtain written permission from their parents and school. Pages earn $65 per day while serving in the program.
