Washougal middle schooler serves as a page with Rep. Waters in Olympia
Fourteen-year-old Max Moran, a student from Canyon Creek Middle School, in Washougal, recently spent the week in Olympia serving as a page in the state House of Representatives. His sponsor was 17th District state Rep. Kevin Waters.
“It was great working with Max,” said Waters, R-Stevenson. “It was my pleasure to sponsor him. He’s smart and talented and I’m confident he has a bright future ahead of him. I hope he enjoyed his time working as a page.”
Max’s page duties included learning to navigate the many buildings around the Capitol, delivering messages and documents to legislators and staff, and assisting on the House floor.
In his free time, Max enjoys Boy Scouts, basketball, track, choir, and cross country. He’s also a 4-H Club President.
Each year, students from around the state apply to participate in the legislative page program. Students spent a week attending page school, learning the inner workings of state government and assisting legislators on the House floor. Pages earn $50 a day while serving in the program.
To become a page, applicants must have a legislative sponsor, be between the ages of 14 and 16, and obtain written permission from their parents and school.
